Message from the XO
We're getting close to adding a few more features to the website
- message board for members, a few how-to's, etc. Don't forget to
contact me with your photos
from both 2007 AND 2008. I can give you my mailing address so you
can send them on CD. We're still playing a little catch-up from
last year's downtime.
Check
six,
Rudie

Message from the Adjutant
Obviously, we are back online! Many thanks go out to everyone for
their patience as we took so long to track down the problem! Gather
your pictures from 2007 and drop them to a CD so we can get the
Scrap Book updated!

Message from the CO
AirVenture is just weeks away! I would like to welcome everyone
back this year and a warm welcome to all you new attendees! Please
become familiar with our rules and procedures for this unique event.
Over
the off season we purchased a group GP medium that will be set up
this year. Seven period cots were also purchased. Personnel bringing
vehicles to the event will be reimbursed for fuel via a check sent
post event from Warbirds. WWII vehicles have full access on the
grounds, while period bicycles have restrictions on where they can
be ridden. New this year is a WLHG T-Shirt that everyone who registers
will receive for registering and volunteering!
For those who are doing Army Air forces and have not heard yet,
the camp will be 12th Air Force and not the 9th has it was in years
past. This impression will be more accurate to history and the look
of the camp. The 9th was in Europe, Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland,
Ardennes-Alsace and Central Europe. Early in the war they were involved
in Egypt-Libya & Tunisia but by 1943 units that participated
in Italy were transferred to the 12th AF! Most Groups involved in
Sicily, Naples-Foggia and Rome-Arno were in the 15th AF. Because
of this, standard AAF wing & star patches are recommended on
uniforms and 12th patches would be great! 8th, 9th and 15th are
still OK to still wear.
Non AAF personnel must adhere and report to their COs for uniform
regulation and enforcement.
Camp lay-out will be a bit different this year and will make better
use of the space we are allotted. Large tents will be set-up on
the North end along the fence and small tents on the South end.
This way, P-51's will be visible to the South and the large tents
will block the poor backgrounds to the North. Spots will be assigned
when you arrive with tentage.
Here is a schedule of events for our unit at Airventure 2007...
Connie has once again asked for our participation this year! Also
(GAF take note!) the highest scoring living German Ace, Gunther
Rall will be at Warbirds in review! He will have an autograph signing
area and we are going to invite him to visit the camp!
There is another possibility for our participation...The Berlin
Airlift C-54 might fly over runway 18/36 and recreate a parachute
"candy drop". Connie asked if our group would like to
go out on the runway and recover the parachutes & candy. Once
recovered, the group could proceed to the crowd line and hand out
the candy to a few lucky kids. There are a total 33 little parachutes
and I don't have the date or time for this yet.

LAST CALL FOR PHOTO CDs!
ATTENTION MEMBERS
We are about to make the final pass through all the CDs that have
been submitted as we assemble this year's photo collection.
We
don't have very much coverage on the C-47 shoot, so if you have
any shots from that session please be additionally encouraged to
send in your discs ASAP!
Take
time now to drop your 2006 photos to a CD or two (or three) and
shoot them off to Rudie! Contact
him for a snail mail address. Please burn your CDs using the
ISO 9660 format.
We
could also use pictures from previous years; especially from 2003
or before!!

AirVenture '06 After Action Report
Thanks to everyone
who made AirVenture 2006 such a success for the LHG. We made tremendous
progress on many fronts. Participation, presentation, inclusion
and organization all made broad strides forward. The new staff concepts
seem to be working well. Despite the heat, everyone maintained a
durable sense of humor and we all rolled with some fairly robust
punches dished out by Mother Nature! WELL DONE.
Congratulations
to our CO, Kevin Wisniewski for the Appreciation Award he received
from Warbirds of America at the Warbird Awards Banquet!
Four
words: Wayne Geis - Sherman Tank.
Warm
thanks are due to B-25 veteran, dear friend and mentor Joe Miller
for contributing his L-Bird to our display and for providing beer
and snacks for our movie night!! We thought we were here to honor
YOU, Joe!!
We
were lucky enough to fall within the viewfinder of Steve Mark's
camera once again. The results of his P-40 photo shoot were all
over the internet last year, and we were fortunate to spend some
serious time working with him this year. We all look forward to
seeing the finished product from those vignettes!
A
hearty cheer also goes out to Karl Kjarsgaard and the Halifax 57
Rescue group who shared their resources and time with us as we learned
about their plans to raise their SECOND Halifax bomber - this time
from over a thousand feet of water off the coast of Scotland. Their
tribute to American citizens in the RCAF was inspiring, and many
of us are STILL humming that song of Jim Blondeau's!! Visit
their site to see the video and download the MP3.
It
was nice to see so many new faces, and we hope to see everyone back
on the flightline next July for AirVenture 2007!!
