About
The Warbirds
Living History Group
Made
up of Army Air Force enthusiasts from all over North America, the
Warbirds Living History Group assembles for roughly one week
each Summer to provide a living history presence for Warbirds
of America at the EAA
AirVenture in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Our members are all volunteers
who provide their own equipment and resources.
During
AirVenture week, the group populates a campsite which recreates
the headquarters section of a forward airfield for the 12th AF as
they make their push up the Italian boot in 1943. The outfit also
plays host to a contingent of Royal Air Force pilots and is often
called upon to act as a collection point for downed Luftwaffe aircrew.
While
we try to represent any typical AAF unit near the front line, we
also provide uniformed personnel for a number of photo shoots and
warbird presentations which call for a wide range of impressions.
Since
2005 the group has been invited to 'Show Center' to participate
in the Warbird Air Show portraying a ground component receiving
close air support by P-40s, P-51s and B-25s. More integration of
the Living History experience is anticipated for future airshows.
Each
year the Warbirds LHG has sponsored a 'Movie Night' featuring 16mm
short subjects and feature films of the WW2 era. Hosted by Group
CO and vintage film collector Kevin Wisniewski, the event is a great
chance to share a little fellowship with members of the EAA community
'off the flightline'.
